The countdown begins

Today, the 7th of May, is the eve of one of the biggest day of our political year. At 7.30 tomorrow night the Treasurer Mr. Swan will make his budget speech, with political nerds and junkies being either in our nations capital or else (like me) glued to their television screens and twitter streams. In class today we learnt that the budget should be looked at from three different angles, an Economic angle, a Political angle and a Social angle, this is because to different people from different sectors will take diffent things from the budget. With that in mind, the debate and analysis that will happen over the next 72 hours will be incredible and oh-so-interesting to listen to and watch. Even as I sit here and write this preparation is underway for lock up and the speech, so let's just watch and see. Whether the budget returns to surplus as the government have been promising still will not be learnt really untill the end of the next financial year, but it will be a big news topic. From what I can gather Economists are not really worried about the economy returning to surplus as the European markets are volatile and hard to predict. Saying that however, politically it would not be good for the Gillard Government to not deliver on more promises with an election to be held by the end of next year.
